Energy Healing Practices You Can Do at Home as a Beginner

You do not need a practitioner to begin energy healing. These beginner practices you can do at home will help you clear, ground, and restore your energy field.

Energy healing is the practice of working with the body’s biofield – the electromagnetic and subtle energy that surrounds and permeates the physical body – to restore balance, clear blockages, and support the body’s natural capacity for healing and wellbeing. While advanced energy work benefits from a skilled practitioner, there is a significant range of effective practices that anyone can begin at home, without special training or equipment.

Grounding: The Foundation of All Energy Work

Grounding – connecting your energy to the earth – is the most fundamental energy healing practice and the appropriate starting point for all beginners. When you are ungrounded, energy accumulates in the upper body and head, producing anxiety, mental racing, and a sense of disconnection from physical reality. Grounding returns energy to its natural flow and creates the stability from which all other energy work can safely proceed.

Practice: Stand or sit with bare feet on the floor or ground. Take several slow, deep breaths. Visualise roots extending from the soles of your feet down through the floor, through layers of earth, all the way to the earth’s core. With each exhale, send excess energy, tension, and anything you are ready to release down through the roots into the earth. With each inhale, draw up the earth’s stabilising, nourishing energy. Do this for five to ten minutes daily.

    EFT Tapping: Clearing Energetic Blocks

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) combines the stimulation of acupressure meridian points through tapping with focused cognitive attention on a specific emotion, belief, or physical sensation. It is one of the most accessible and research-supported energy healing tools available to beginners.

Practice: Identify something you want to work on – an anxiety, a limiting belief, a physical tension. Rate its intensity from 0 to 10. Begin by tapping on the karate chop point on the side of the hand while saying three times: “Even though I have this [problem], I deeply and completely accept myself.” Then tap sequentially on eight points – the top of the head, inner eyebrow, side of eye, under eye, under nose, chin, collarbone, and underarm – while repeating a short reminder phrase about the issue. Complete several rounds and re-rate the intensity. Most people notice a measurable shift within one to three rounds.

    Breath Work for Energy Clearing

The breath is one of the most direct tools for shifting energetic state. Specific breathing patterns activate different aspects of the nervous system and energy body.

Alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana): Close the right nostril with the right thumb and inhale through the left. Close the left nostril with the ring finger, release the thumb, and exhale through the right. Inhale through the right. Close the right, exhale through the left. This is one cycle. Continue for five to ten minutes. This practice balances the two hemispheres of the brain and the ida and pingala nadis – the two primary energy channels in yogic tradition – producing a state of calm, clear balance.

    Visualisation for Energy Field Clearing

Practice: Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Visualise a sphere of pure white or golden light above your head. As you inhale, draw this light down through the crown of your head, through your body, filling every cell and space with clear, healing light. As you exhale, release anything that is dense, dark, or heavy out through the soles of your feet into the earth. Continue for several minutes, until you feel the visualisation shift from effortful to natural. Many people find that even five minutes of this practice produces a noticeable change in how they feel energetically.

    Building a Daily Energy Practice

Begin with grounding every morning – it takes five minutes and sets the energetic foundation for the day. Add one other practice – EFT, breath work, or visualisation – based on what you are currently working with. Consistency over time produces the most significant results. Energy work, like physical fitness, builds capacity through regular practice. Begin where you are, with what you have, and trust the process.
